After the recent US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Russia has now stepped into the scene with a strong response. The Russian leadership has once again voiced its opposition to Washington’s provocative actions. The Kremlin condemned the attack and warned that such aggressive moves can dangerously escalate the situation further.
Kremlin spokesperson stated that as of now, Russian President Vladimir Putin has no immediate plans to speak with US President Donald Trump regarding the incident. However, he mentioned that if necessary, arrangements for such a call can be made. In a parallel development, Iran’s Foreign Minister has announced plans to visit Moscow to meet President Putin. Both nations intend to discuss their strategic partnership and deliberate on possible coordinated responses to the evolving crisis.
Russia’s Deputy Chairman of the National Security Council and former President Dmitry Medvedev also sharply criticized the United States for the strike. He questioned what exactly the US hoped to achieve by bombing Iran’s nuclear sites. According to Medvedev, although there has been some damage, the critical infrastructure related to Iran’s nuclear fuel cycle remains largely unaffected. The enriched nuclear material continues to be fully secure and ready for future production.
Medvedev further warned that under such circumstances, other countries may even consider directly supplying Iran with nuclear warheads.
The growing tension between Washington and Tehran is attracting increasing support for Iran from its allies. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been vocal in his criticism of the US, stating that the military attack is a blatant violation of international law. He directly blamed Washington’s "lawless administration" for breaching Iran’s sovereignty, declaring that Tehran reserves the right to respond proportionately to this aggression.
In another significant move, Iran is now seriously considering withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Iranian leadership argues that remaining within the framework of the NPT offers no security guarantees, especially after being subjected to such strikes despite compliance.
Tehran has hinted that a major announcement on this front could be made soon.
Meanwhile, amidst the rising tension, Iran has reached out to India for diplomatic dialogue. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi held a lengthy phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the gravity of the situation. Prime Minister Modi expressed serious concern over the escalating developments and called for restraint from all parties involved.
