Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has achieved a major milestone by crossing 9 million units in cumulative domestic sales since its entry into the Indian market in 1996. This milestone coincides with the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations scheduled for May 6, 2025, and underlines Hyundai’s consistent growth and long-standing presence in India.
In April 2025, HMIL recorded total sales of 60,774 units, which includes domestic sales of 44,374 units and export sales of 16,400 units. Despite ongoing macro-economic challenges affecting the domestic automotive sector, Hyundai continues to demonstrate resilience and growth.
The company has been strongly promoting its manufacturing philosophy of ‘Make in India, Made for the World’, which is reflected in its robust 21.5% year-on-year (YoY) growth in export volumes in April 2025. Furthermore, during the January to April 2025 period, HMIL achieved 16.2% YoY growth in exports, compared to the same period in the previous year.
Commenting on the April performance and the 9-million milestone, Mr. Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer at HMIL, stated, “As we enter our 30th year of operations in India, we are proud of our commitment to the country, which has enabled us to reach 9 million domestic sales. While the domestic market continues to face headwinds, we have remained focused on exports, achieving significant growth that reflects our global vision rooted in Indian manufacturing.”
Looking forward, Hyundai is gearing up to commence operations at its new plant in Talegaon during the fourth quarter of calendar year 2025. This facility will further strengthen HMIL’s manufacturing capacity to cater to both domestic and international markets, as the company continues to innovate and expand its footprint in India and abroad.
Hyundai’s performance in April 2025—driven by strong export demand and solid domestic sales—coupled with its landmark 9 million-unit achievement, showcases the company’s strategic strength and its commitment to the Indian automotive landscape.
