China Welcomes U.S.-Iran Ceasefire Efforts, Calls for Dialogue and Lasting Middle East Peace

China has welcomed the recent ceasefire efforts between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable path toward achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded to a question from AFP regarding whether China is playing a diplomatic role in helping the U.S. and Iran move closer to an agreement aimed at ending tensions and conflict in the Middle East.

Mao Ning stated that China’s position on the Iran situation has been “very clear” and stressed that the conflict “should not have happened in the first place.” She added that prolonging the crisis serves no purpose and that finding an early resolution is in the interests of not only the United States and Iran, but also regional nations and the broader international community.

According to Mao Ning, China welcomes the recent U.S.-Iran ceasefire and ongoing efforts to resolve issues through negotiations. She noted that these developments have also been positively received by countries in the region as well as by the international community.

The Chinese spokesperson reiterated Beijing’s long-standing stance that dialogue and negotiation are the correct way forward, while warning that the use of force ultimately leads to a dead end. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the current momentum toward easing tensions and ensuring that all parties remain committed to political and diplomatic solutions.

Mao Ning further stated that all sides should continue engaging in dialogue and consultation in order to reach a settlement that accommodates the concerns of every party involved. She also highlighted the need to reopen key shipping lanes as quickly as possible to stabilize global supply chains and maintain uninterrupted international trade flows.

The comments come amid growing global concerns over disruptions in the Middle East, particularly regarding energy markets and maritime trade routes that are critical to the global economy.

China also called for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire to be achieved at the earliest opportunity so that peace and stability can return to the Middle East and Gulf region.

Highlighting China’s diplomatic efforts, Mao Ning said that since the conflict began, Beijing has consistently worked toward promoting peace and ending hostilities. She referenced Chinese President Xi Jinping and his “four propositions” aimed at safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.

According to Mao Ning, China will continue to act in line with these principles and work together with the international community to support peace talks and play what she described as a “constructive role” in achieving lasting peace in the region.
