Sona Comstar Announces Joint Venture with China's Jinnaite Machinery

In a significant move to expand its global footprint, Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. (Sona Comstar), one of India’s leading automotive technology companies, has announced the formation of a Joint Venture (JV) with China-based Jinnaite Machinery Co. Ltd. (JNT). The decision was formally approved during the company's board meeting held on July 20, 2025.

The JV aims to manufacture and supply driveline systems and components for automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) both in China and in international markets. The venture will operate either directly under Sona Comstar or through its wholly owned subsidiary (WOS). Jinnaite Machinery Co. Ltd., headquartered at Gucheng Development Zone in Hubei Province, China, will be the partner entity in this collaboration.

According to the terms agreed upon by both parties, Sona Comstar will contribute 12 million USD to the new joint venture and will hold a 60% equity share. JNT, on the other hand, will contribute assets and business operations and will retain a 40% equity stake. The partnership structure reflects a strategic alignment designed to leverage each company's strengths. Sona Comstar brings capital and global automotive experience, while JNT adds technological manufacturing capability and access to the Chinese market.

Jinnaite Machinery operates a world-class foundry and utilizes patented technology to manufacture complex castings and molds. The company has a strong customer base in key segments such as automotive, off-highway, aviation, railway, and marine sectors. Their clientele includes major Chinese automotive OEMs, as well as manufacturers from North America, Europe, and Japan.

The JV is expected to begin operations in the second half of the current financial year. A binding Term Sheet has already been approved by both parties, and Sona Comstar’s board has also authorized its officials to proceed with finalizing the Shareholders’ Agreement and other related legal and commercial arrangements necessary for the JV.

This development marks an important milestone in Sona Comstar’s global strategy and positions it to benefit from opportunities in the Chinese automotive ecosystem while further strengthening its presence in international markets.

This partnership reinforces the growing collaboration between Indian and Chinese companies in the advanced manufacturing and automotive sector and is expected to create a positive impact on both firms’ global competitiveness.
