China has responded to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he questioned China’s wind power development and criticized its exports of wind turbines.
According to Reuters, President Trump said at Davos that China manufactures large numbers of wind turbines but claimed he had not “been able to find any wind farms in China.” He also said that China has been selling wind turbines to what he described as “stupid” people.
When asked to comment on the remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun firmly rejected the claims and outlined China’s record in renewable energy development and climate action.
Guo Jiakun said that China has developed the world’s most complete policy system for reducing carbon emissions and has built the world’s largest renewable energy system. He added that China actively shares its achievements in green development with the international community.
The spokesperson noted that China’s installed wind power capacity has ranked first in the world for 15 consecutive years. As of the end of November 2025, China’s total installed wind power capacity has exceeded 600 million kilowatts, highlighting the scale of wind farm development across the country.
Guo Jiakun further stated that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China’s exports of wind power and photovoltaic products helped other countries reduce carbon emissions by around 4.1 billion tonnes in total. He said these efforts reflect China’s contribution to global climate governance and renewable energy deployment.
China’s actions in combating climate change and advancing the global development and application of renewable energy are widely recognized, the spokesperson added.
Guo Jiakun emphasized that as a responsible major developing country, China stands ready to work with all parties to continue promoting the global green and low-carbon transition and to jointly build a clean and beautiful world.
